TANKERS The demand for Suezmaxes is steadily increasing out of the N. Sea and W. Africa. – Rates on Aframaxes at stable levels in the Med. and, with lesser inquiry, in the N. Sea. – Caribs still at W/S 130-135 for 70,000-ton cargo liftings. – In the Med., OMV for 80,000 tons of cargo loading Jan. 4 Libya, discharging Italy, has fixed M/T «Gaetano d’Alesio» at W/S 225. – In the Cont. and in Suezmaxes, BP for 135,000 tons of cargo loading Jan. 6 N. Sea, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Minerva Nounou» at W/S 150. – In Caribs, Exxonmobil for 70,000 tons of cargo loading Dec. 23 East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Tamara» at W/S 132.5. – In Arabian Gulf, SK for 240,000 tons of cargo loading Jan. 7, discharging S. Korea, has fixed M/T «Lania» at W/S 130. DRY CARGO Freight rates and indices continue to improve. Far East market on even firmer rates with good demand also for T/C periods. – On Capers, Swiss Marine has fixed M/V «SG Prosperity,» 211,201 dwt, built 1997, delivery Dec. 25-26 China via S. Africa, redelivery UKC, at USD 20,250 daily. – On Panamaxes in Far East, Bulk Shipping has fixed M/V «Afovos,» 74,306 dwt, built 2001, delivery Indonesia end Dec. – early Jan., redelivery Med., at USD 14,750 daily. – In Atlantic, Cargill has fixed M/V «Pythagoras,» 75,162 dwt, built 2002, delivery end Dec. Spain for 4-6 months period at USD 13,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, IVS has fixed M/V «Pacific Career,» 43,415 dwt, built 1993, delivery S. Africa end Dec., redelivery UKC, at USD 9,800 daily. – On coal cargoes, Rheinbraun for 180,000 tons of cargo, loading S. Africa end Jan., discharging Turkey, has fixed M/V «SG Prosperity» at USD 10.25 per ton with 2-day load and 30,000 tons discharge.
