TANKERS Even firmer rates on VLCCs with eastern destinations. Stasco for 270,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 1, discharging East, has fixed M/T «Sunrise Jewel» at W/S 135, while M/T «World Crest» for same cargo quantity, loading Feb. 3, discharging China, was fixed at W/S 137. – Suezmaxes are also being fixed at impressive numbers. W. Africa with destination Med./Cont. is paying W/S 190, while Sun has fixed M/T «Front Warrior» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 4, discharging USAC, at W/S 187.5. – In the N. Sea, Valero for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 27 Flotta, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Four Smile» at W/S 177.5. – Aframaxes present a different picture in almost all areas. In the Med., Repsol has fixed M/T «Magnitude,» which was ballasting from the N. Sea at W/S 160, for her cargo out of Libya Jan. 19-20 with destination Spain, while Tupras for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 21 Banias, discharging Turkey, has fixed M/T «Golden Gate» at W/S 165. – In Caribs, Stasco has fixed AET tonnage for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Jan. 25 Colombia, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 152.5. – In the Med., Agip for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading beg. Jan. Black Sea, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Mare d’ Orico» at W/S 210. – In W. Africa, Stasco for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 8, discharging Australia, has fixed M/T «New World» at W/S 165. – In Arabian Gulf, Vitol for 270,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 4, discharging S. Korea, has fixed M/T «New Victory» at W/S 130. DRY CARGO Capers at stable levels, while in Panamaxes the uncertainty in the East for early tonnage was relieved after an impressive number of new orders in the market. Rates climbed to USD 14,500 daily for a nopac round-trip voyage. – In the Atlantic, Bottiglieri relet M/V «Tai Plenty,» 73,000 dwt, built 2000, to a Japanese charterer for Jan. 20-25 delivery US Gulf and then to the Singapore Japan range, at a sharply higher USD 12,000 daily. – On Handies, Brobulk has fixed M/V «Sea Brilliance,» 38,309 dwt, built 1984, delivery S. Africa end Jan. / early Feb., redelivery Cont., at USD 9,500 daily. – In Far East, Cosco has fixed M/V «Cic Horizon,» 70,003 dwt, built 1994, delivery Indonesia Jan. 20-25, trip via W. Australia, redelivery China, at USD 15,500 daily. – In Atlantic, ABT has fixed M/V «S.A. Warrior,» 74,450 dwt, built 2001, delivery mid-Jan. Gibraltar for two legs, redelivery Atlantic, at USD 11,750 daily.
