More bite in fight against monopolies

The Labour and Social Insurance Ministry is putting together a draft bill boosting the ability consumer groups and businesses have to seek compensation from companies caught flouting competition rules.

The bill, expected to be put up for public debate soon, clears the way for parties hurt by cartels to seek damages based on decisions made by the Competition Commission.

Employees at the General Consumer Secretariat will also see their powers to perform market checks boosted by the expected change in law.

Decisions made against violators will be paid with interest from the time the offense was committed.
