Unemployment rate jumps to 13.9 pct in November

Greece’s jobless rate rose to 13.9 percent in November, from 10.6 percent in the same period a year earlier, as just over 160,000 people lost their job in the 12-month period.

It stood at 13.5 percent in October, the National Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Thursday.

The labor market in the Ionian islands and northern Greece’s eastern Macedonia and Thrace districts were hardest hit, showing unemployment rates of 16.2 percent. In Attica the jobless rate was at 13.9 percent.

Greece’s working population in November fell to 4.30 million people in November, from 4.46 million a year ago.
