OPAP chairman Stamatopoulos resigns

The chairman of OPAP, Haris Stamatopoulos, resigned and his position will be assumed by Ioannis Spanoudakis, the firm?s chief executive officer, the betting company said on Friday.

“The chairman submitted his resignation in writing today,» Culture Ministry spokeswoman Katerina Anesti told Reuters. «He will assume an important post at the Bank of Greece.”

Stamatopoulos will be appointed to the Bank of Greece’s monetary policy committee, another official familiar with the issue said.

He had previously served as a chairman at Athens International Airport and worked at the Bank of Greece.

Spanoudakis will temporarily fill Stamatopoulos’s post, while a new chairman will be chosen at the next general shareholders meeting, scheduled for May, Anesti added.

Shares in OPAP were up 3.24 percent at 15.60 euros in late trade on the Athens bourse on Friday, versus broader market gains of 0.40 percent.
