OTE and OPAP contain index losses

Had it not been for blue chips OTE telecom and the OPAP gaming company, the local bourse?s main index would have posted significant losses on Thursday, which were contained to 0.21 percent at the end of the session.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 1,286.88 points, down from Wednesday?s close at 1,289.63 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 0.42 percent to end at 575.04 points.

OTE added 4.79 percent and OPAP gained 2.13 percent, while ATEbank slumped 8.51 percent and Alpha Bank shed 4.62 percent.

In total, 54 stocks moved up, 75 went down and 53 remained unchanged. Perseus posted the biggest rise, with gains of 9.52 percent, while Ilektroniki Athinon led the losers, shedding 16.67 percent.

Turnover came to 69.8 million euros, down from 87.6 million on Wednesday.
