Most stocks end with losses but benchmark index rises

A balanced session on the local bourse saw more stocks decline than rise on Thursday, but the main index ended marginally higher.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,262.64 points, expanding by 0.29 percent from Wednesday?s close at 1,258.97 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 0.58 percent to end at 564.70 points.

The temporary suspension on the stocks of Hellenic Postbank and T Bank, which are in merger talks, froze buying interest, which warmed up again toward the end of the session. Turnover came to 81.5 million euros, up from 79.1 million euros on Wednesday.
