Photovoltaic law proves problematic

A year since a law encouraging people to install photovoltaic systems was passed, the scheme has run into problems.

The total number of applications for subsidies was five times more than planned, while the Public Power Corporation?s efforts to inform interested parties that many applications would not be approved only managed to anger the Association of Investors in Photovoltaic Systems, who argued that it ran against the government?s desire to expand the use of solar panels in Greece.

On Tuesday Deputy Minister for Environment Yiannis Maniatis sent a letter to the head of PPC asking for all applications to be made public on the Internet, in a call for more transparency.
