Solution expectations bolster bourse

Optimism about a solution to the eurozone debt crisis in the next few days? summits sent Greek stocks soaring on Friday, with banks leading the way once again.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 782.36 points, adding 5.33 percent from Thursday?s closing figure of 742.76. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 6.19 percent to close at 311.50 points.

Over the last three days the bank sector index has gained a total of 17 percent. Hellenic Postbank added 20.54 percent yesterday, followed by Piraeus Bank (up 11.64 percent), National Bank (10.00 percent) and Alpha Bank (9.43 percent).

In total, 135 stocks moved up, 30 went down and 18 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 57.5 million euros, against 37.7 million euros on Thursday.
