Full sale of water companies

The government is now examining the possibility of selling its entire stakes in the Athens and Thessaloniki water and sewage companies, EYDAP and EYATH, according to a decision by the ministerial committee for privatizations released yesterday.

The decision dates from January 25, but was only uploaded on the state?s ?Clarity? website on Monday.

Until recently the two companies were to have only a part of their state stakes sold, but the appointment of consultants for their sale points to a full privatization. Similarly, the Piraeus and Thessaloniki port authorities will be sold off in their entireties, too.

In the case of the Public Power Corporation, the ministerial decision has appointed consultants ?for the further privatization of the company? without specifying the size of the stake that will be up for sale.

Other public stake sales concern Hellenic Post, Hellenic Petroleum and regional ports and airports.

The contracts with the consultants chosen have not yet been signed as the Finance Ministry intends to negotiate their fees.
