Mid-caps buoy up bourse?s benchmark index
Mid- and small-caps propelled the Athens bourse?s main index higher on Thursday as trade in blue chips proved quieter than usual on a day of relatively low turnover, probably due to the fact that the payment of credit default swaps was not triggered.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 747.85 points, expanding by 0.57 percent from Wednesday?s closing level of 743.59 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 0.24 percent to close at 305.95 points, while the mid-cap index climbed 2.08 percent.
Ellaktor led the blue chips with gains of 5.88 percent. The biggest loser was Marfin Investment Group, shedding 6.75 percent.
In total, 87 stocks registered gains, 59 posted losses and 25 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 54.5 million euros, down from Wednesday?s 68.7 million.
