Unemployment benefits as usual, this month

Manpower Organization OAED reported on Monday that unemployment benefits for February, due at the end of the week will remain unchanged from last year, though a reduction will come into force later in the year.

The basic unemployment benefit is due to be slashed by 22 percent as part of government measures to reduce spending, though OAED said that although the reduction was agreed on between the Finance and Labor ministries on March 1, it will not be put into effect until the decision is published in the Government Gazette.

This means that the majority of Greece’s jobless will receive their usual 461.50 euros this Friday, though it was not clear when the reduction, which will bring the benefit down to 360 euros a month, will commence.
