Turnover falls while NBG dominates

The worrying drop in activity on the local bourse and the huge focus on National Bank of Greece were the dominant features of Thursday’s session, which ended with most stocks sustaining losses.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 976.95 points, declining 0.85 percent from Wednesday’s 985.36 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index contracted by 1.05 percent to end at 331.34 points, though mid-caps added 0.15 percent.

National secured 40 percent of all turnover and fell 5.14 percent in the end. OTE telecom rose 4.05 percent.

In total 49 stocks posted gains, 85 reported losses and 29 stayed put.

The absence of Piraeus and Attica banks, which are not trading currently due to their reverse split, resulted in lower turnover, which amounted to just 46.8 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 53.1 million.
