Electronic billboards in New York City?s Times Square are hosting an advertising campaign inviting Americans to visit Greece this summer.
The promotional effort begins on Friday, March 23, and will last for 30 days.
The campaign is being organized by private initiative Up Greek Tourism and aims to promote Greece as a tourist destination. A voluntary effort, Up Greek Tourism raised over 20,000 dollars from 330 private individuals to cover the cost of the Times Square campaign.
According to the organizers, 50 percent of the funds raised came from supporters outside Greece, including Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Germany, Qatar, Singapore, Russia and the United States, among other countries.
The campaign?s promotion was conducted mostly via social media networks.
