Passenger traffic at Athens airport drops 11 pct

Athens International Airport SA passenger traffic dropped 11 percent in the first quarter of the year as the economic crisis hit travel spending and protests dented Greece?s image abroad.

The number of people passing through the country?s biggest airport declined to 2.37 million in the three months through March 31 from 2.67 million in the same period of 2011, according to a statement posted on the airport?s website.

Domestic travelers dropped 7.9 percent to 904,459 and international passenger traffic fell 13 percent to 1.47 million, the company said.
