Coca-Cola HBC dashes rebound hopes

Hopes of a healthy rebound from 23-year lows on the local bourse were all but dashed on Wednesday. The main benchmark index was up 2.6 percent at one point during the session but selling pressure reduced these gains to a marginal rise at the end of the day.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 477.42 points, adding 0.22 percent to Tuesday?s closing figure of 476.36 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 0.75 percent to close at 171.16 points.

Influential blue chip Coca-Cola HBC?s 4.76 percent contraction played a large role in eliminating the session?s early gains. OTE telecom outperformed with a 7.96 percent rise.

In total, 62 stocks posted gains, 59 registered losses and 18 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 30.7 million euros, down from Tuesday?s 45.4 million.
