Benchmark index inches up in session of low turnover

The local bourse?s benchmark index posted gains for the third session in succession on Friday. Although minimal, the slight rise brought the market?s weekly losses down to 1.84 percent.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 492.69 points, adding just 0.10 percent to Thursday?s closing figure of 492.19 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 0.02 percent to close at 177.58 points, but mid-caps grew by 0.40 percent.

OPAP gave up 12.08 percent, but Public Power Corporation outperformed with gains of 10.85 percent and Duty Free Shops climbed 9.11 percent.

In total, 67 stocks posted gains, 52 registered losses and 23 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 29.4 million euros, the lowest of the last eight sessions, down from Thursday?s 46.1 million.
