Growth continues in bourse after late surge

Despite strong selling interest, buyers again came out on top in Thursday?s local bourse session, with most stocks reporting significant gains, led by banks. The late surge which followed the announcement of the new cabinet saw the main index close near the day’s peak.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 614.09 points, adding 1.83 percent to Wednesday?s closing figure of 603.04 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index gained 2.09 percent to close at 231.75 points.

Bank of Cyprus outperformed with gains of 10.51 percent, ahead of National Bank (up 4.20 percent) and Alpha Bank (4 percent). METKA gave up 1.28 percent.

In total, 92 stocks posted gains, 35 recorded losses and 13 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 61.4 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 83.1 million.
