Local stocks claw back part of Monday?s losses

The strong finish at the end of Tuesday?s bourse session saw the majority of Greek stocks recover some of the ground lost during Monday?s crash, despite temporary losses over the course of the day.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 575.83 points, expanding by 1.59 percent from Monday?s closing figure of 566.79 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 1.62 percent to close at 211.64 points.

Alpha Bank outperformed as it added 10.78 percent, while Cypriot lenders suffered after Nicosia announced its bailout request: Popular Bank fell 7.41 percent and Bank of Cyprus lost 2.68 percent.

In total, 70 stocks posted gains, 55 recorded losses and 20 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 46 million euros, up from Monday?s 41 million.
