Hotel staff go on strike

Hotel and food catering employees staged a 24-hour strike on Wednesday while some 200 held a rally outside the Ministry of Labor in central Athens to demand the signing of a new collective labor contract as the current one for hotel professionals expires on July 18.

The collective contract for food catering employees is valid until August.

They also called for measures against undeclared labor in the sector and the introduction of certain regulations in terms of industrial relations.

Hotel and food catering employee representatives had a meeting with the ministry?s new political administration to explain their demands.

They are further planning a 48-hour strike on July 10-11, with protests outside major hotels.
