Mid-caps keep stock market?s index afloat

A rollercoaster session in the Greek bourse ended with blue chips suffering losses but with the main index posting gains thanks to mid-caps that outperformed on Thursday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 678.96 points, up 0.58 percent from Wednesday?s closing figure of 675.07 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 0.06 percent to close at 245.08 points, but mid-caps gained 1.16 percent.

Duty Free Shops continued its growth with gains of 5.34 percent, ahead of Viohalco (up 2.68 percent). Bank of Cyprus incurred losses of 4.35 percent.

In total, 74 stocks moved up, 46 headed southward and 24 remained unchanged.

Turnover dropped to 41.8 million euros on Thursday, from 53.5 million euros on Wednesday.
