Political disagreement checks early bourse surge

Uncertainty generated by Thursday afternoon?s meeting of the three coalition leaders put a damper on the positive mood which saw the local bourse?s benchmark index climb almost 4 percent during early trade, buoyed by the good news for PPC in its European court case.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 763.69 points, adding 1.41 percent to Wednesday?s 753.06 points. Still, the blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 0.04 percent to close at 277.41 points.

Public Power Corporation added 3.57 percent, beaten only by Ellaktor (up 9.09 percent), Viohalco (7.19 percent) and Coca-Cola HBC (4.82 percent).

In total, 89 stocks secured gains, 64 suffered losses and 28 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 81.7 million euros, down from Wednesday?s 101 million.
