New FTSE 25 stocks outperform on day of losses

There were two distinct areas of interest at the Greek bourse onFriday, as banks dragged blue chips and the main index lower while mid-caps enjoyed a healthy rise due to traders taking positions in the stocks set to join the new FTSE-25 index on Monday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 809.14 points, giving up 0.86 percent from Thursday’s closing figure of 816.16 points.

On a weekly basis the index contracted by 4.25 percent, but November proved to be the fourth consecutive month of growth for the benchmark index.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index fell on Friday by 2.04 percent to 279.18 points, but the mid-cap index advanced 2.23 percent.

All five stocks to upgrade to the FTSE-25 from Monday posted gains. They are Frigoglass (up 10.92 percent), Intralot (6.94 percent), TERNA Energy (4.18 percent), Hellenic Exchanges (3.26 percent), Piraeus Port Authority (3.01 percent) and Eurobank Properties (1.42 percent).

In total 47 stocks went up, 83 declined and 26 were non-movers.

Turnover amounted to 59.8 million euros, up from Thursday’s 52.6 million.
