Afternoon correction eats into benchmark’s weekly gains

The main index of the local bourse chalked up weekly gains of 4.64 percent at the end of Friday’s session, despite a correction that put the brakes on the early upward momentum.

The Athens Exchange general index closed at 1,022.57 points, declining by 1.88 percent from Thursday’s 1,042.16 points.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index contracted by 1.90 percent, ending at 344.80 points.

Titan cement outperformed, adding 2.25 percent, while Piraeus Bank gave up 4.42 percent and Alpha shed 4.35 percent.

In total 51 stocks went up, 110 registered losses and 21 stayed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 47.1 million euros, the lowest in the last 16 sessions, down from Thursday’s 62.2 million.
