Euphoria sees stocks post rebound

The euphoria created by the visit of French President Francois Hollande on Tuesday in Athens was reflected on the local bourse, that rebounded from its Monday to decline to post significant gains.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,038.26 points, on its highest level for the day, up by 1.12 percent from Monday’s 1,026.81 points.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index expanded by 1.25 percent, ending at 348.87 points, but the mid-cap index contracted by 0.54 percent.

For a second day in a row Bank of Cyprus outperformed other blue chips with gains of 6.72 percent, followed by Coca-Cola HBC (up 3.98 percent). OTE telecom contracted by 1.27 percent.

In total 81 stocks went up, 69 came down and 26 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 50.4 million euros, up from Monday’s 49 million.
