OTE propels bourse index over 1,000 points

A late buying spree on the local bourse resulted in the majority of stocks ending the week on a high, mostly thanks to the upward momentum created by soaring OTE telecom shares.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,003.32 points, adding 0.70 percent to Thursday’s figure of 996.30. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index expanded by 0.58 percent, ending at 335.05 points.

OTE was the blue chip leader, adding 4.97 percent, while banks underperformed, with Alpha giving up 4.55 percent and National shedding 0.98 percent.

OPAP fared even worse, shrinking by 4.93 percent.

In total 85 stocks posted gains, 66 went down and 20 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 69.8 million euros, down from Thursday’s 84.1 million.
