Southbound mid-caps drag stock index lower

Mid-caps weighed on the Greek bourse’s benchmark index on Thursday as sellers gained the upper hand between 3.15 p.m. and the end of the session, although banks continued their ascent.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 924.86 points, contracting by 0.63 percent from Wednesday’s 930.73 points.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index added just 0.01 point, ending at 300.14 points.

Marfin Investment Group shrank 14.60 percent, while retailer Jumbo was the day’s biggest winner, adding 4.88 percent.

In total 54 stocks registered gains, 77 recorded losses and 22 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 48.7 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 53.9 million.
