OPAP contract with Intralot alerts Brussels

The governing board of gaming company OPAP unequivocally chose Intralot as the winner of the tender for the listed firm’s technological support on Wednesday.

The new five-year contract, amounting to at least 108 million euros (not including value-added tax), will be signed within 20 days, once Intralot produces the necessary documents, a mere formality.

The reaction to the new OPAP-Intralot contract, regarding the conduct of the gaming company’s board, has drawn the attention of the European Commission, which sent a letter to Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras requesting details about the procedure followed. The process is informal, but Brussels could start a formal one if it it wishes to. OPAP is up for privatization and Intralot is one the main suitors.

Officials from the state privatization fund (TAIPED) say that the deal opens the way for OPAP’s sell-off. They also added that consortiums bidding for OPAP will not be sumbitting their details on Tuesday as was originally planned. Interested parties are instead invited to table their offers by April 17 without prior notification of their possible share partnerships.
