Greece’s Financial Crimes Squad breaks in two

Nearly half of the responsibilities of Greece’s Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE) are being passed on to the General Secretariat for Revenues, which will act independently of the Finance Ministry’s mechanisms and answer only to the minister, upon the insistence of the country’s creditors.

Preventative monitoring, inspection groups for the payment of value-added tax, trading of commodities and fuel smuggling are now the responsibility of the General Secretariat for Revenues. SDOE will still be responsible for tracing financial crimes, money laundering, unraveling the Lagarde list, opening bank accounts to check for wrongdoing etc.
