Healthy rise for most stocks on Greek bourse

Despite turnover remaining at low levels, the vast majority of Greek stocks posted healthy gains on Wednesday, and even banks returned to growth following a few rocky sessions.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 923.67 points, growing by 1.10 percent from Tuesday’s 913.62 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 expanded by 1.44 percent to 300.37 points.

The banks index added 5.85 percent, with increasingly volatile National and Eurobank rising 11.76 percent and 11.54 percent respectively.

OPAP’s price fell 5.44 percent on the day that was the deadline for offers for its 33 percent stake.

In total 102 stocks posted gains, 36 suffered losses and 29 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 54.8 million euros, up from Tuesday’s 50.5 million.
