Plan sees 24 mln tourists in 2021

The number of foreign tourists visiting Greece could top 24 million arrivals in 2021, with direct and indirect revenues reaching up to 50 billion euros and jobs in the tourism sector climbing to 1 billion euros, according to a plan presented by the president of the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE), Andreas Andreadis, at its 21st annual general meeting in Athens on Wednesday.

He confirmed that foreign arrivals will amount to a record 17 million this year, with direct revenues exceeding 11 billion euros, and said that there will be initiatives to reduce usage costs at Athens International Airport.

Tourism Minister Olga Kefaloyianni made reference to a bill expected to be tabled in Parliament soon which concerns the operational unification of accommodation units, the promotion of new tourism products such as youth hostels, and the introduction of tourism attaches at Greek embassies and consulates around the world.
