Stocks go up as lender stocks post 69 pct rise in May

May was the second consecutive month of growth for the Greek bourse, with bank gains coming to an impressive 69 percent after Friday’s northbound session led by Eurobank and National Bank.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,014.53 points, growing 1.98 percent from Thursday’s 994.87 points, but on a weekly basis it lost 1.99 percent. In May it added 4.25 percent.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index rose 3.20 percent on Friday to end at 346.02 points, while small-caps declined by 1.63 percent.

Eurobank expanded by 29.24 percent and National added 15.97 percent.

In total 90 stocks registered gains, 72 suffered losses and 21 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 158.1 million euros, up from Thursday’s 96.3 million.
