Stocks edge up on record low turnover
The market is looking for direction as investors await news of a deal between the government and the country’s creditors, and as a result local stocks fluctuated all day on Thursday before ithe main index ended with minor gains.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 821.86 points, up 0.35 percent from Wednesday’s 819.03 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index rose 0.54 percent to 279.29 points, but mid-caps fell by a significant 4.93 percent.
Banks continued their drop with National Bank shedding 7.27 percent. Marfin Investment Group climbed 6.64 percent.
In total, 63 stocks went up, 54 came down and 16 stayed unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 28.3 million euros, the lowest recorded this year.
