Stournaras: EU must see to growth

Greece will return to growth next year, Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras assured on Monday, while calling on the European Union to combine fiscal policy with growth initiatives.

Addressing an event organized in Athens by New Democracy European Deputy Marietta Yiannakou titled «New Europe Now» Stournaras said that «the deepening of the crisis is making it clear that the solutions tried to date have only partially been successful in bringing the results they were meant to.”

He called on the EU to «proceed from the state of prolonged puberty during which it placed emphasis on its monetary policy, to adulthood, which requires the further unification of economic and fiscal institutions and instruments.”

He asked Europe to plan for the necessary growth and funding tools «that will secure the prospects of all these people who are today reacting, protesting and rallying,» adding that capital is being transferred from the European South to the North.
