Schaeuble and multi-bill vote boost stocks

Banks joined the upward swing on the local bourse on Thursday, aided by the presence of German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble in Athens and the ratification of the multi-bill by Parliament, as the benchmark index rose for the third day in a row.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 846.95 points, expanding by 1.71 percent from Wednesday’s 832.73 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index grew by 1.37 percent to end at 287.92 points.

National Bank led blue chips with a rise of 10.33 percent, ahead of Intralot (up 4.70 percent) and Alpha Bank (3.89 percent).

Coca-Cola HBC gave up 1.65 percent.

In total, 78 stocks registered gains, 44 recorded losses and 23 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 38.4 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 45.4 million.
