Significant gains for stocks as PPC leads rise at week’s end

After 25 sessions of lethargy, the benchmark index of the Athens bourse rose above the 860-point level on Friday thanks to major gains for Pubic Power Corporation (PPC) and other non-banking chips.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 865.72 points, expanding by 2.63 percent from Thursday’s 843.55 points. On a weekly basis it added 3.43 percent.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index grew 2.50 percent to end at 294.13 points.

PPC gained 8.71 percent, Intralot followed with 7.59 percent and Marfin Investment Group climbed 6.93 percent.

In total 92 stocks recorded gains, 30 sustained losses and 20 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 32 million euros, the week’s highest, up from Thursday’s 24.5 million.
