Reports suggest Turkish Airlines still interested in Olympic

Reports in the Turkish press over the weekend suggested that Turkish Airlines (THY) is still considering an Olympic Air buyout in its effort to expand further in the region.

The plan, which first surfaced in Zaman newspaper in the spring, provides for Olympic to retain its name and logo for a couple of years before being fully absorbed by THY, with the Turkish company thinking about establishing a hub at Athens International Airport, along with that in Istanbul, in order to start operating flights from Greece to various destinations abroad.

The reports, which appeared in Zaman and elsewhere, added that THY is also considering a bid for rival Greek carrier Aegean at a later date.
