Banks lead in technical rebound, mid-caps also show mettle

Greek stocks rebounded on Friday, in what analysts described as a clearly technical reaction. Bellwether stocks, notably banks, stood on positive ground throughout the session.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index surged 2.94 percent, to 924.47 points.

The large-caps index was up 2.97 percent and banks climbed 4.18 percent. Piraeus Bank advanced 4.04 percent to 1.03 euros, leading in turnover with 5.16 million euros. National Bank added 3.04 percent to close at 3.05 euros and OPAP gained 2.58 percent to 7.56 euros. Alpha Bank climbed 6.14 percent to 0.50 euros and OTE telecom was up 2.98 percent to 6.92 euros. The mid-caps index was up 2.65 percent.

Winners outnumbered decliners 82 to 44, while turnover rose to 33.58 million euros.
