Optimism sees bourse index add more than 4 pct
The new week started with great momentum for the Greek bourse as banks led local stocks higher following the prime minister’s upbeat speech on the national economy at the Thessaloniki International Fair on Saturday and the release of better-than-expected second-quarter data on the gross domestic product.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 977.34 points, adding 4.05 percent to Friday’s 939.34 points. The FTSE/ATHEX 25 index rose 3.96 percent to end at 335.06 points.
All blue chips went up on Monday, led by Piraeus Bank (11.76 percent), Alpha Bank (8.99 percent) and National Bank (7.74 percent).
In total 101 stocks recorded gains, 29 showed losses and 18 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 95.1 million euros, the highest in the last 69 sessions, up from last Friday’s 61.5 million.
