Building activity down by 31.3% in June, according to ELSTAT
The number of building permits issued in June fell by 31.3 percent compared to the same month a year earlier, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Tuesday
In total, there were 1,347 permits issued in June, corresponding to 245.8 thousand m2 of surface and 1,020.7 thousand m3 of volume. This reflected a 17.9 percent decrease in surface and a 8.1% decrease in volume, compared to the same month of 2012.
Private building activity amounted to 1,331 building permits, corresponding to 229.5 thousand m2 of surface and 930.3 thousand m3 of volume. In comparison with the same month in 2012, this is a 31.7 percent decrease in the number of building permits, a 22.5 percent decrease in surface and a 15.2 percent decrease in volume.
Public building activity in the country as a whole in June 2013 amounted to 16 building permits, corresponding to 16.3 thousand m2 of surface and 90.4 thousand m3 of volume.
