Bourse index shakes off Viohalco departure

The main index of the local bourse appeared to overcome the news concerning the transfer of the Viohalco headquarters from Athens to Belgium, posting a marginal rise at the end of the week’s first session.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 993.23 points, adding 0.18 percent to Friday’s 991.46 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index grew by 0.06 percent to end at 340.90 points, while the small-cap index gave up 0.97 percent.

Viohalco contracted by 7.62 percent, but EYDAP climbed 4.75 percent, Piraeus Bank rose 2.36 percent and Jumbo jumped 2.30 percent.

In total 53 stocks reported gains, 65 suffered losses and 29 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 42.5 million euros, up from last Friday’s 35.8 million.
