Deadlock continues on Skaramangas shipyards

Hellenic Shipyards employees held a peaceful protest on Wednesday outside the Ministry of National Defense in Athens, in demand of 18 months’ worth of overdue pay and a full work schedule as the current rotation scheme expired on September 30.

The staff at the unit based in Skaramangas, western Attica, eventually left disappointed after a meeting with the ministry’s general secretary, Antonis Economou, failed to yield any results.

The company’s owners say the return to full working shifts has been delayed due to non-payment of state arrears by the government.

The union representing the workers said that it will proceed with fresh industrial action tomorrow and seek a meeting with Development Minister Costis Hatzidakis on Tuesday.
