Some of Greece’s best ferries sent into hibernation

Some of the Greek fleet’s state-of-the-art coastal ships will spend the winter moored in Piraeus, as the companies operating them have decided against chartering them on their scheduled routes, which illustrates the lean times that coastal shipping is currently experiencing.

The decisions, for instance, by Hellenic Seaways to keep the Nisos Chios and Nisos Myconos, aged 6 and 8 years respectively, in port and by the Attica Group to take the brand-new Blue Star Patmos (of 2012) and Blue Star Delos (of 2011) off its winter schedule shows that even the biggest players have been affected by the problem.
