Greek unemployment rate at 27.3 percent in August

Greece’s unemployment rate was 27.3 percent in August, compared to 25.5 percent in August last year, the country’s official statistical service (ELSTAT) said Thursday.

The figure was unchanged compared to the previous month, data showed.

ELSTAT said that the number of unemployed amounted to 1,365,406 while the number of inactive to 3,360,334.

The number of employed decreased by 88,242 persons compared with August 2012 (a 2.4 percent rate of decrease) and increased by 9,777 persons compared with July 2013 (a 0.3 percent rate of increase), it said.
