Little change for benchmark as local market seeks direction

For a third straight session, the benchmark index of the Greek bourse remained in the 1,146-1,147 point range as the market continues to seek direction, as denoted by the reduction in turnover.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed on Wednesday at 1,146.26 points, slipping 0.04 percent from Tuesday’s 1,146.69 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 was virtually unchanged (it fell by just 0.01 point) to end at 376.98 points. Mid-caps inched up 0.72 percent.

Energy stocks fared best among blue chips, with Terna Energy adding 2.90 percent and Public Power Corporation increasing 2.38 percent. Corinth Pipeworks also went up 2.44 percent. Marfin Investment Group contracted by 3.99 percent.

In total 61 stocks posted gains, 79 sustained losses and 30 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to just 63.7 million euros, down from Tuesday’s 91.8 million.
