Small gains at end of the year of huge market rise

The year’s last session on Tuesday showed moderate gains for most stocks, but it brought to a conclusion 12 months of huge gains as the benchmark index registered a remarkable annual growth 28.06 percent. The year was also marked by the demotion of the local market from developed to emerging by MSCI.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed on Tuesday at 1,162.68 points, adding 0.62 percent to Monday’s 1,158.03 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded by 0.62 percent to end at 384.84 points.

Fittingly, it was Hellenic Exchanges that outshone other blue chips on Tuesday with gains of 3.63 percent, while Eurobank Properties declined by 4.94 percent.

In total 81 stocks showed gains, 59 posted losses and 18 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 52.1 million euros, which was not bad for the half-day that New Year’s Eve was.
