Pimco does not see Greece returning to bond markets in 2014

In an interview published on Friday in Germany’s Sueddeutsche Zeitung, a spokesman for investment firm PIMCO, the world’s biggest bond fund manager, said it did not see Greece returning to international bond markets next year, contradicting claims by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras that Greece would no longer need the support of foreign creditors this year.

PIMCO’s money manager Myles Bradshaw told the German newspaper that the investment firm did not believe Greece would be in a position this year to raise money on the international markets.

Bradshaw’s comments came just a few days after Samaras declared, in a televised New Year’s message, that Greece «will return to the markets and start to become a normal country again.”
