YouTube and Facebook are Greeks’ favorite sites

YouTube and Facebook are the most popular websites among Greek Internet users, according to a survey compiled by the Electronic Trade Laboratory of the Athens University of Economics and Business (ELTRUN).

The most popular social networking site is YouTube, with a use rate of 93 percent in Greece, while Facebook comes a close second, grabbing the interest of 82 percent of users, and LinkedIn is third with 61 percent. Review pages have 58 percent, blogs take up 49 percent and Twitter accounts for 46 percent in Greece.

The researchers who compiled the 2013-14 ELTRUN report found there is a growing trend in favor of all social networking sites, while less well-known sites such as Instagram, Foursquare, Flickr and Google+ are also gaining ground. The research used the responses of 1,250 users of social networks in the period November-December 2013.

YouΤube users choose it in order to listen to music (77 percent) and to seek out things that interest them (68 percent), while 30 percent use it to gain information. Facebook is accessed by 61 percent of its users in an active way – i.e. to promote their views and for communication – while 31 percent use it in a passive manner, following developments and their friends.
