All gains of 2014 are lost as slide goes on in bourse

Any gains registered in the benchmark of the Greek bourse since the start of the year evaporated by the end of Monday’s session, as stocks continued their slide, along with most foreign markets.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,159.43 points, shedding 2.07 percent from Friday’s 1,183.99 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted by 2.38 percent to 380.80 points.

National Bank declined by 6.27 percent, getting knocked out of the category of the stock with the biggest capitalization, at 8.24 billion euros. It was overtaken by Piraeus, which lost 2.35 percent and closed with a capitalization of 8.42 billion euros.

The day’s other big losers among blue chips were Frigoglass (down 4.88 percent) and EYDAP (4.72 percent). Terna Energy grew 1.20 percent.

In total 31 stocks went up, 104 dropped and 22 stayed put. Turnover amounted to just 68 million euros, down from Friday’s 82.3 million.
