Stocks make weekly gains of 2 percent on low volume

Stocks were split between winners and losers on Friday, but the closing auctions provided moderate gains to blue chips and the main index, which made weekly gains of 2.05 percent. The low trading volume was a sign of the indifference felt mostly by foreign investors.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,280.46 points, adding 0.68 percent to Thursday’s 1,271.85 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded 0.53 percent to 416.87 points, though mid-caps declined by 0.38 percent.

Blue chips posted a mixed picture, with Jumbo rising 2.97 percent, Frigoglass growing 2.95 percent and OTE telecom climbing 2.55 percent.

Heading south were Corinth Pipeworks (3.85 percent) and Coca-Cola HBC (1,71 percent).

In total 67 stocks registered gains, 69 reported losses and 22 remained unchanged. Turnover came to 55.9 million euros, down from Thursday’s 57.3 million.
